Instagram Roundup: What to Wear in Weird Southern Winter Weather

by - January 16, 2020

No doubt about it. Southern winters have crazy mood swings. Most days, I have no idea how to dress. It's a good thing I like wearing boots in all seasons! And the last few weeks, we've experienced them all. So here's a look at what I've been wearing through Mother Nature's mood swings, as seen on Instagram.

Boots: ShoeDazzle

One of my favorite tricks for dresses in the winter is to layer a sweater over them. In this case, I bunched the sweater like I was going to knot it, secured it with a ponytail and then rolled it under to create the illusion of a waist. I also love wearing over-the-knee or knee-high boots with midi dresses.

Boots: Baretraps

We rarely get the opportunity to layer sweaters over long-sleeve shirts down here, so when we actually had some real winter temps, I took full advantage.

Jeans, a sweater, and ankle boots are kind of my go-to when the weather gets cooler. This polka dot sweater keeps my outfit interesting without me having to try too hard.

Tunic: Old Navy

Christmas was warm once again this year, so instead of wearing a sweater like I wanted, I opted for this long-sleeve popover tunic.

There's just something about pairing edgy shoes like combat boots with a feminine dress. I picked up this dress on clearance for about $10 at Target, and unfortunately it's been removed from their website. It was around 80 degrees on the day I wore it, so the long sleeves were almost too much.

A trip to the zoo definitely called for a comfy, easy-to-walk in outfit, so my go-to of jeans, sweater, boots was perfect. I added a light jacket for an extra layer against the wind.

This dress had been sitting in my 'Save for Later' list on Amazon for months. It's so comfortable and the way the faux wrap drapes is really flattering. I wore this for a day of magazine distribution so I paired it with my leopard sneakers and threw on my white leather jacket (not pictured).

I was technically overdressed for the weather the day I wore this, but since I spent most of the day inside with the a/c blowing, it all worked out. I'm not sure if I like the lighter boots with this outfit, but I felt like everything else was too dark.

These boots have become my new favorites. The color is perfect, the heel height is just high enough for me, and I love the way the shaft of the boot slightly dips in the front. Side note: if you haven't tried the frozen chocolate at Dunkin, you're missing out.
