Real Outfit Roundup: Faking Fall in 90 Degrees

These real outfit roundups are sneaking up on me! How has it been two weeks already?!

More importantly, how is it October already? It's hard to believe that we've been in school for two months. It's been a good, if slow, start to the school year for me. There's been a lot of realignment happening -- expectations, lesson plans, back-teaching, etc. This is certainly not the place for this discussion, but the literacy crisis is real, and it's having a profound impact on my classroom this year. I think that's why these weeks seem to be gone in the blink of an eye. I've truly not had a moment to slow down and just enjoy the school year yet. I'm constantly having to reassess what I'm doing, not just for the next week but for the next day. It's exhausting!

Anyway, like I said, this is not the place for that discussion. I just wanted y'all to have an understanding of why I maybe haven't been as present lately. Ya girl is tired, y'all.

Now, on to the clothes! Fall may be officially in season, but it certainly doesn't feel like it here in the deep South. Our temperatures have been consistently in the 90s with feels-like temps in the 100s for the last two weeks. So as much as I want to dress like fall, it's not that simple. I've just been making small tweaks here and there with colors and prints to kind of "fake" the feeling of fall fashion.

Here are eight outfits from the last two weeks. All looks I wore to teach middle school with four being styled specifically for homecoming week. I'm missing both Fridays since I legit forgot to take pictures on both. To be fair, I was wearing jeans and a school spirit shirt both days, so nothing truly special.

Sizing info: I'm 5'2" and weigh approximately 140 lbs. I wear size 6 or s/m in clothes and 7 in shoes.

The first day of Homecoming week was to dress as a school stereotype. Our choices were jock, prep, nerd, or skater. I kind of combined prep and nerd to come up with this look.

This is one of my favorite skirts. Sadly, it's no longer available from where I bought it. The option I've linked to looks exactly like this one, but I obviously can't speak to the quality. The same goes for this gorgeous embroidered sweater.

I've never thought to put these two things together, but I really like the way it turned out. I would absolutely wear this combo again, just with different shoes. I'm not really one for the socks and loafer look.

Day two of Homecoming week was twin day. My mother bought me this t-shirt so we could match. I like Gilmore Girls but would have never have bought this for myself. It's a large and very much too big for me. I tied it up in the back so I didn't feel like I was swimming in too much fabric.

These are my favorite jeans. I actually can't believe they're still available. I wear size 6 in these, and they fit perfectly.

Day three of Homecoming week was to dress like an athlete. I know it doesn't look like it, but I did participate in this one. I wore my letterman jacket for as long as I could stand it. It was so hot this day, y'all! Anyway, I was going for a Grease vibe with this one.

This is one of my most-worn short-sleeve sweaters, but it's no longer available. I found one that's really similar for y'all. My skirt is still available. It's tulle with little stars, fully lined, with an elastic waist.

Day four of Homecoming week was beach day, which was surprisingly hard for me to pull off. I decided to go with this vibrant pair of overalls since I've actually worn them to the beach before. The hat is what made the outfit, though.

I originally had just a plain white tee under the overalls, but I hated the way it looked. So I swapped it out for this better-than-basic eyelet tee. The subtle pattern of the eyelet plus the rolled sleeves was perfect, especially when paired with the white sneakers. I would absolutely wear this again...with the hat even.

P.S. I have no idea where this hat came from. I found it in a closet, ha!

I have been planning this outfit for weeks! I'm not sure the colors are a 100% match since the darker stripe in the sweater is a navy blue and not black like the skirt. I didn't realize it until I was already at school.

Anyway, I love this sweater so much. It's a nice, thick, stretchy knit, so it's very comfortable. The colors are just perfect, too. The skirt is another of those cotton-linen ones that I love so much. I've had it for awhile but just hadn't worn it yet.

My flats are one of the most-used shoes in my closet, even though they're not really "in style" anymore. They're also no longer available, which is sad since they're comfortable, classic, and affordable. I linked to a pair that looks pretty close.

My necklace is very old.

I've been feeling inspired by Practical Magic to resurrect all the 90s trends I still love, especially floral printed slip skirts. I actually bought this skirt in three different colors; the print is basically the same on all three. It was a happy coincidence that the dark green of the sweater was a perfect match for the green in the pattern of the skirt.

I did size up to a large in the skirt for a little more room. The medium would have fit, but it would have been clingier than I want to wear to work in a middle school. The large was the perfect amount of clingy. It's got an elastic waist and is fully lined.

My sweater is an open-weave, so you may want to add a camisole underneath it for a bit more modesty (or warmth if it's actually cold where you live).

I can't believe this, but my belt is still available! It's such a fun throwback to the early 00s.

I gotta admit that leopard print pants were not on my bingo card, but these ones kept calling to me every time I saw them, so I took a chance. And I'm so glad I did! These are so comfortable. They've got the perfect amount of stretch. I'm wearing size 8 since this brand runs a tad small in my opinion.

My blouse is another of those better-than-basic eyelet tees. Because it's an open texture, you might want to layer a camisole underneath.

This is the exact same skirt as the light pink floral one. I decided to pull out the pink in the floral print with this coral print eyelet tee and tie it all together with these velvet pink mary janes.

There are four pages of these skirts to choose from, so if you're looking for some nice slip skirt options definitely check them out. I like the apricot and beige.
