Favorite Outfits of 2022

by - December 28, 2022

Last year I did a roundup of my favorite outfits from the year. It was an interesting look at how my style had evolved in the wake of Covid and leaving an office job. This year, my style has evolved even more, especially in the second half of the year when I entered the world of teaching.

I've talked about it before, but it took me a very long time to find my personal style. I spent a lot of my teen and young adult years emulating other people's style with no real thought as to what I liked. It didn't really matter a lot to me whether a particular trend worked with my body type. If my friends and coworkers were wearing it, so was I. Thankfully, I came to my senses in my late 20s and finally started feeling comfortable in my own skin and clothes when I hit my 30s. Now, I dress for myself and no one else.

With that said, here are 30 outfits from 2022 that I really loved.

This was one of my first outfit posts of this year, and I still love this look just as much today as I did then. Shackets are still on trend, but I think I'd still love this one even if they weren't.

I wore this for my good friend and mentor's retirement party. It was the perfect balance between professional and dressy.

This might be the most 'out there' look I attempted in 2022. It's a lot of pink, and the fuzzy coat definitely takes it over the top, but I definitely don't hate it.

I love this dress. There's nothing really special about it. I just like the way I feel when I wear it.

I wore this for a high school career fair I volunteered at early in the year. I wanted to be professional and comfortable and felt very girl boss.

This might be my favorite outfit of the entire year. I just love this yellow maxi dress, especially topped with a denim vest and knotted at the bottom.

I wore this for an edgy date night outfit. I love the asymmetrical hem of this tulle skirt.

Simple outfits are my favorite, especially when you use pieces that have subtle elevating details. I've really enjoyed the return to platform-style shoes this year, and I love the 70s throwback of this pair so much.

This is one of those outfits that doesn't seem like it should all go together, but the end result is so me.

Everything in this outfit is firmly part of my favorite purchases of 2022 list.

I wore this white seersucker maxi skirt so many times this year, but I think this pairing was my favorite.

I had the chance to go to an adult prom fundraiser for our local art museum this year, and I took full advantage of the occasion to dress up in a way that I normally wouldn't get to.

I almost didn't include this swimsuit coverup in this collection, but it really is one of my favorite things from last year. It's so pretty I almost want to wear it like a dress. Obviously it's not thick enough for that, but it's a nice way to dress up a swimsuit.

This maxi skirt is one of my best purchases of the year, hands down. I've worn it so many different ways but these two are my favorites. This first one has kind of a monotone thing going on with all the blue tones.

Then with this one, I used a yellow t-shirt to pull out some of the subtle colors in the skirt's pattern. I kept the vest to add a little more structure and swapped out my twist slides for white sneakers.

I don't remember what the inspiration for this outfit was, but I love the simplicity. I know you can't really tell from the picture, but my blouse is a lace pattern so it adds some texture, and the sleeves have cute little tie details.

Is there anything better than a faux wrap dress? This one is so pretty, y'all, and it's got pockets! It's also a great length for pretty much anything.

This would have made a great Christmas outfit, but I wore it on a random weekday to school. This skirt is so delicate and feminine, so it wouldn't be a good fit for an elementary teacher, but it was okay for middle school.

This is one of those classic outfit formulas that never goes out of style. You can recreate it with any colored pants, and it's perfect for teaching.

Sometimes you can find a real gem in Walmart, and this dress is one of them. It's a great one-and-done outfit, and the colors are perfect for fall.

This plaid blazer was one of my last TV station purchases, so for the past few years it's been living unworn in my closet for lack of reason to style it (thanks, Covid). So when our weather finally cooled down, I couldn't resist putting together this outfit I've had on my Pinterest board for forever.

Did I already say how happy I am that skinny jeans aren't the only in-style option anymore? These black flares are a great addition to my closet. They're easy to dress up or down, although I tend to go for a more casual look these days.

We're going to ignore the fact that a bodysuit is a terrible idea for a teacher and just focus on the aesthetic of this gorgeous outfit. I can't wait to recreate it in the new year!

This preppy look was a real hit with my students. It's not a look I would have attempted before becoming a teacher, but I love how it all came together in the end.

This is another oldie but goodie in terms of this dress. It's been in my closet for a few years, and is one of the few long-sleeve dresses I own. I really love how these tan leather boots dress it up.

I'm not sure if I managed to pull off this look confidently, but I do love this style. Not to mention the fact that these pants are technically sweatpants designed to wear to work. Next time I think I'll try a different pair of sneakers to keep the black-and-gray theme.

This is one of those outfits that I didn't expect to like. I typically stay away from patterned leggings outside of exercise, but I don't hate these. Obviously since this outfit made my favorites list. It's really the only truly Christmas-themed outfit I styled this season, and I ended up wearing it twice to work.

I wore this on the last day of our St. Augustine vacation, which happened to also be Thanksgiving. It's a fairly simple outfit, but I still love it.

What can I say about this skirt that I haven't said one-thousand times before? Regardless, it's one of my favorites, and I'll keep updating it year after year until it finally wears out. Speaking of updates, this short-sleeved sweater is a must for any closet in a wide variety of colors.

And last but not least, this gorgeous sweater dress. It's heavy but not too thick for our usually-mild winters. I love that it's not fitted and has pockets.
