Anyway, welcome to another edition of Real Outfit Roundup, this time featuring exactly two weeks of looks from the middle of summer when the heat and humidity are in full control of my clothing choices. For those of you who are new around here, this is a bi-monthly post in which I share the outfits I wore in real life along with brief explanations and links to shop the same or similar items.
The last two weeks have been pretty uneventful, but we have left the house most days, and even on days that we didn't, I still got dressed. I think this roundup is a good mix of old and new with lots of versatile pieces that you'll be seeing repeated often.
Sizing info: I'm 5'2" and weigh approximately 140 lbs. I usually wear size 6 or s/m in clothes and size 7 in shoes.
We're starting on Sunday. I don't remember much about this day outside of going to Target (obviously). We must have gone to lunch somewhere based on this outfit.
All I really remember about Monday is that Alexis and I had planned to go to the library, but my car wouldn't start because the battery had died. So my husband had to leave work to come to our rescue. It's actually a good thing we didn't drive all the way to our preferred library, though, since they were closed for a funeral.
Anyway, I really liked this outfit. I picked up this skirt on our Target trip the day before. It's 100 percent cotton and fully lined, which means it's not see-through. It's got an elastic waist with a draw string, and the skirt is tiered. It's knee length on me, but it's meant to be mid-thigh I think. I also got it in brown.
It was really hot, and I wanted to be comfortable, so I pulled out this paisley drop waist swing dress that's still available in almost every size. I love this style of dress so much that I've bought it in three other options. I did get it in a medium, which was a little bit more oversized than I need, but after washing it fits just right.
My yellow mary jane espadrilles are also still available in most sizes. They were an impulse, on-sale buy for me toward the end of the school year, but I've really enjoyed them.
I'm trying to remember what we did on Wednesday, but for the life of me I cannot. I know that we did something very specific, though. Maybe this the day we took my car to the shop and picked up the rental jeep?
I picked up this light blue ribbed tank on a random Walmart trip. It's the one color that my favorite ribbed tanks from Amazon don't come in (Technically, there is a light blue in my fave Amazon tank, but it's not the shade that I wanted). It goes with so much in my closet, so it's been very useful. I decided to pair it with one of my viral chiffon skirts. This one is the sage green floral and has just enough blue in the pattern for the top to work.
My sandals were a gift from a coworker. They are the Matisse Beach Sable Heeled Sandal in gold. I'm linking to them in silver just so you can see them. When I googled them, a few pairs popped up in random places. These run very small. I'm wearing a size 8, and they fit like my usual size 7.
This is definitely a repeat outfit, by the way, although I'm not sure if this specific version has ever made the blog. This floral print skirt by Kirundo is an old favorite that makes frequent appearances. This time around I decided to pair it with this light pink tank. I added a belt for some definition at the waist, then matched my sandals to the belt. I'm also wearing a colorful chain-link necklace.
On Friday, I dropped Alexis off at her grandparents for the weekend, but that's pretty much all I remember. I remember being very intentional with this outfit, though. I'd actually been thinking about pairing this fun beach scene tee with these flowy shorts for awhile, and I love the way it came out.
I have no idea what we did on Thursday, and I didn't leave myself any clues. We must have gone somewhere, though, since I took the time to put together such a pretty outfit. This might have been the day Alexis and I went to Hobby Lobby.
This beach-scene graphic tee was a best seller in June, and for good reason. It's the perfect oversized fit, without being too long. It's so soft, and I appreciate the vented sides. It's still available in almost all sizes right now and is on major sale.
I'm still loving the flowy shorts. These navy blue ones are my faves that I own in this brand. They're chiffon and layered so that they look like a skirt but without the worry of showing off something you'd rather not in a stiff breeze.
I cannot believe these sandals are still available! I recommend sizing up a half if possible. I've been wearing them going on three years now, and they still haven't loosened up any.
This is one of my most versatile dresses. I wear it all the time with various things to create a bunch of different looks, but it absolutely works on its own. All I added for this day was my colorful chain link necklace and some straw platform sandals. My dress is long sold out, but I found a couple of very similar options for you from a brand that I buy frequently that have good reviews.
On Saturday, I took a solo trip to the bookstore. I bought myself a coffee and then spent at least an hour just wandering around the shelves.
My shoes were gifted to me by a friend, but I think I found them. They're the Matisse Beach brand, and I think they are the Del Mar style. As with the previous shoe by this brand, these run very small. I'm wearing an 8, and they fit like a 7. That said, I love these slides so much. They have become a go to for me this summer.
Sunday was one of those days where I just lazed around on my own literally all day. I threw this on to go grab dinner with my husband when he got off work. I would wear this look again, although I would do a bit more to get the wrinkles out before leaving the house, ha! I really liked the purple-pink of the tee with the green gingham of the shorts. I thought it was a fun combo.
Unfortunately, my boxers are sold out in this green gingham print, but they are still available in blue and red gingham and a solid yellow. My graphic tee is sold out in all but two sizes.
My sneakers were a replacement for my old worn-out pair of white sneakers, and I think I like them better. These are so soft and squishy. They're very comfortable. They are canvas, but so far I've been lucky in terms of keeping them clean.
That brings us back to Monday and one of my favorite looks for this entire post. I've had this dress in my closet for awhile now and decided that it was time to just wear it. I kept everything nice and simple and it just worked.
The dress is starting to sell out in some sizes, so if you like it, you'd better hurry. It's supposed to be a mini length, so for me that means knee-length. It's got a sweatheart neckline with a decorative tie and a smocked back. It even has pockets!
My necklace is actually a set of three. It comes with a colorful, beaded necklace, a starburst choker length chain necklace, and a longer letter pendant. You can wear them all together or separately. They were, honestly, such a good buy.
Anyway, I absolutely love this colorful look. Does this tank technically match this skirt? Not really. Does it work anyway? Absolutely. It felt perfect for summer.
Tuesday was a fun day. We went to Hobby Lobby again, then walked down to Second and Charles to explore. I hadn't been in since way back when the store first opened, and I was honestly blown away by the book selection, particularly the used book section. It had so many of my old favorite authors in it -- I could have easily spent the rest of the day back there.
This is another of the Kirundo floral print skirts that I love so much. This print is just so bright and fun, I couldn't resist it. Like the others I own, it's fully lined with an elastic waist and tiered skirt. The only thing it's missing is pockets, but what else is new in women's fashion?
My tee is a basic, boyfriend tee by Universal Thread at Target. It's got a nice, boxy fit, and I don't find it to be see-through. It's still available in most sizes.
Alexis and I ended up just hanging out at the house on Wednesday, so a comfy outfit was the order of the day. I still love these shorts from last year and would probably wear them more often if it didn't mean having to do laundry more often. They're the Wild Fable brand, which actually has a pair of really similar shorts this year that I linked for you above. I recommend sizing up in this brand since it's technically a juniors brand. I also linked to three other fun, summer print shorts options for you.
Thursday had me dressing in a semi-patriotic outfit. I'd been thinking about this exact pairing for awhile and decided to just go for it. We took Alexis up to the lake for a camping trip with my parents, then Chris and I ended up having a date night, so it ended up being perfect.
My halter top is still available in limited sizes. It's got a built-in bra, which is really convenient. It's a nice, soft, stretchy material that's not see through. I have not had any issues with the tie coming loose while wearing or shifting around inappropriately.
These are my latest pair of flowy shorts. They are the same brand as the blue pair I shared earlier in the post. I actually think they're the same pattern just in red.
I fell in love with this navy-and-white striped dress as soon as I saw it...the day before. Y'all know I can't help but wear a new dress as soon as possible! It is so flattering and so comfortable and ridiculously affordable.
I decided to keep this outfit very simple. All I added was my letter pendant necklace and my beloved straw slides. The result was an outfit that felt very much like summer. Expect to see a lot more of this dress.
That brings us to Saturday. I had an outfit planned for the 4th, but it didn't work out (I accidentally bought the wrong size), nor did our plans (my dad wasn't feeling well), so I threw this on instead and actually really liked it. Alexis was still camping, so it was just my husband and me. We mostly hung out at the house, but we did go buy some steaks for the grill and checked out the festival they were having downtown.
I never would have guessed how much I really like these baggy 9" shorts. This is actually the second pair I've bought this summer! Like in every pair of shorts I've ever owned, I sized up to an 8. I like them to be loose on my hips instead of fitting like a pair of jeans.
I just got this super cute East Coast Records graphic tee. I'm a fan of ringer tees, especially when they're not super snug. Sadly, I managed to get a pretty big stain all over this shirt, front and back, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to salvage it. I just might buy a replacement, honestly. That's how much I really like this t-shirt.
