The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate with my family. Most years we spend it on the water, and of course there's always fireworks involved. This year things will probably look a little different. The campground where we normally go is closed for renovations this summer, so right now we don't actually have any plans.
Now, however, is the time to start planning your outfit. Mine will probably look the same as it has the past couple of years - an Old Navy flag tank (that I'm not seeing on their website this year, sorry), shorts, and flops. It's hot here, y'all; we're talkin' triple digits, and we're almost always outside for the entire day.
This year's inspiration is casual but versatile. Most pieces can be worn a variety of ways depending on what you'll be doing. I also tried to pick things that you can wear for things other than the holiday. I kept my browsing with Amazon, Old Navy, and Target. All pieces are under $50.

Red Striped Top & Matching Shorts - Sets are really in right now. The ones that are a solid color aren't my favorite, but I do like this one with the striped sleeveless top and solid bottoms. It comes in a pretty navy blue option, too.Short-Sleeve Striped Sweater - I love short-sleeved sweaters. They feel instantly elevated, which means this one would be perfect for anyone who has to work on the holiday.
Red Gingham Dress - I'm not sure gingham ever really goes out of style, but it's definitely having a moment right now, and this dress is absolutely darling.
Gingham Skirt - So is this blue gingham skirt. It also comes with a matching tube top.
Floral Dress - If you're looking for something a little more subtle, this floral dress is for you. The flowers are red, white, and blue.
Red Shorts - I love the retro vibe of these running shorts. They also come in a pretty bright blue.
USA Sweatshirt - This is absolutely not appropriate for where I live this time of year -- I'm sweating just looking at it! But I still love it.
White Linen Tie-Front Top - This is another subtler option that you can wear again and again.
Striped Tank - I actually really love this sleeveless top. It comes in a darker blue stripe with red trim, as well.
Cropped Flag Tank - This tank comes in a ton of patriotic prints. It's definitely not fancy, but I would absolutely wear this at the lake or river over a swimsuit.
Striped T-shirt - Old Navy has the best t-shirts, and this red, white, and blue striped one is a nice, casual, subtle way to show your patriotism.
Star Print T-shirt - Or you can go with a more pointed nod to the holiday with this star print.
Red Slides - These red slides would go with pretty much anything on this list.
Star Flip Flops - Or you can keep it simple with these cute star print flops.
Halter Dress - I really love this distressed flag print halter dress.
Reversible Tote Bag - Yes, I know this is technically not clothing, but it is the perfect accessory for the Fourth of July. The bag is a good size and really nice quality. It's reversible so you can choose red or navy blue. There's also a striped version as well.
Patriotic Earrings - Statement earrings are always a good way to add a patriotic touch to your outfit without going overboard. I really like the stars, but there are several options to choose from here.
Red Sneakers - I really like the retro vibe these sneakers give.
Patriotic Socks - Socks are another easy way to add holiday spirit without going overboard. Old Navy is my favorite place to find theme socks. I especially love their quarter crew socks.
