My Walmart Summer Must Haves

As much as I love Amazon, and I really do, it's just not convenient for the things I need right now. Living in a rural area means I don't have a ton of options when it comes to in-person shopping, and I'll be honest, Target is not my go-to for daily necessities. As much as I hate to admit it, and as much as I generally hate going there, Walmart is where we end up for the things we've got to have.

In the last two days, we've made at least three trips to our local Walmarts (we have two - one on each side of town). The first trip was to pick up things we needed for the house - shampoo, toilet paper, etc. The second trip was to pick up some stuff for the water park, mostly snacks, and the third was to pick up some stuff we forgot.

Since it's impossible for me to avoid going, I thought I would share the things that I'm loving for summer, many of which I already own or buy repeatedly.

Banana Boat Sport Ultra Sunscreen - This is my favorite sunscreen. It holds up to water and sweat, goes on so easily, and sprays even if you're holding it upside down. It doesn't have a super strong scent and doesn't irritate my skin, and so long as I remembered to reapply and didn't miss any spots, I've not gotten sunburned while using it. My preferred SPF is 50.

Hawaiian Tropic After Sun Lotion - This stuff is amazing after a day spent in the sun, even if you didn't get burned. It helps to maintain any color you did get while moisturizing your sun-dried-out skin. If you do get burned, this will help take the sting out without being sticky and cuts down on the number of days it burns. I appreciate that the lime coolada fragrance is really light.

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer - Anybody that knows me knows that I don't really tan. My freckles get darker, but that's about it. That said, I don't enjoy looking like Casper all summer long. Unfortunately, most self tanners are too dramatic for my fair skin and don't work well with my freckles, but Jergens Natural Glow does exactly what it says. It helps add a believable amount of color, is easy to apply, and doesn't smell funny. You can even get it in a skin firming formula. I use the fair to medium shade.

Athletic Works Water Shoes - I got these to wear to our local water park so that I didn't end up blistering the bottoms of my feet, and let me tell you. This may be the best $10 I've spent this summer. These water shoes have thick soles, drawstring laces, and actually look cute on your feet. I didn't feel like a dork wearing them, which I didn't think was possible. These will come in handy this summer since we have season passes to the water park.

Bonus: Rugged Shark Water Shoes - My husband and daughter love their water shoes that look like tennis shoes. These are a little bit pricier than the ones I got for myself, but Alexis's have held up for going on two summers now and survived trips to Tybee and Jekyll Island, so I would say they're worth the money. See my husband's here and Alexis's here

Plastic Flex Tote - I've been avoiding this style tote for the last few years, convincing myself that I didn't really need one, especially for the hefty price tag of the name brand ones. Practically everyone I know has one. My mom has two! After a couple of trips to the water, I've realized that my current beach bag is not quite big enough, and the washability of this style bag is rather appealing. These ones are only $20 and honestly look and feel just like the name-brand. I'll probably have one before the summer is done.

Mesh Beach Tote - I am still intrigued by these mesh beach totes that claim to be better for sand. I saw this one on one of my last Walmart trips and absolutely loved the pattern. Plus it's only $10.

Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Dry Shampoo - This is one of my favorite hair product brands, and this dry shampoo is pretty legit. I like that it doesn't just refresh your hair but also adds texture, which is usually what I need otherwise my roots remain limp and flat.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Face Moisturizer Lotion - I actually need to get some more of this. It's great for dry, thirsty skin. I only use it at night, though.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Polish - This is my favorite nail polish. It dries really quickly and lasts a long time. It also comes in so many colors.

e.l.f. Glow Reviver Lip Oil - I discovered this recently, but I love it so much. It's like lip gloss, but it actually feels like chapstick. I've been using the shade It's Giving Guava, which is a nice neutral color for me.

e.l.f. Monochromatic Multi-Stick in Glistening Peach - This product made my April favorites and is still going strong. I use it almost daily. Sometimes it's the only product I use! This is my compromise to using bronzer, which is always way too dark for my skin. This gives me a nice sunkissed look.

Round Float - These are Alexis's favorite type of float, and I need to pick up one or two for this year.

Kool Aid Snow Cone Maker - We couldn't pass up this fun summer treat maker. The syrups are sold separately. We got cherry and blue raspberry to start.

Levi's Vintage A-Line Denim Shorts - I have been on the hunt for a pair of loose-fitting denim shorts. It's easier said than done when you have thicker thighs. These a-line ones by Levi's fit the bill and didn't break the bank. I did size up to an 8 even though I wear a 6 in their jeans. I do that in all shorts, though.

Crochet Swim Skirt Coverup - I almost grabbed this because it was just so cute. I always size up in this brand.
