Monday Motivation + Happy New Year

by - January 04, 2021

It's the first Monday of 2021. I feel like it should feel more momentous than it actually is. I think I feel this way every year to be honest, but especially after everything that happened in 2020, I expected the start of this year to feel more meaningful. Yet, here we are steal dealing with a deadly virus that way too many people aren't taking seriously while our "leaders" in DC can't be bothered to help the Americans who have been so negatively impacted. We are literally starting 2021 by picking up exactly where 2020 ended.

That said, I'm not sad to see 2020 in the rearview. It was a tough year all the way around. We were luckier than a lot of people but not completely unaffected. All the momentum I had built up in 2019 came to a stuttering halt in March and hasn't really recovered. So for me, 2021 will be all about rebuilding what 2020 took away. No small feat, but at least I'm not completely starting over.

We didn't ring in the new year with anything special. Alexis spent the last week of the year with grandparents, and Chris and I were in bed around 10:00. Party animals, I know. On New Year's Day, I cooked for both sets of our parents. We had all the traditional foods: ham, black eyed peas, and greens, plus mac 'n' cheese, cornbread, deviled eggs, and a cherry dump cake. It rained all day (is that considered good luck like on your wedding day?) so we didn't venture out.

This weekend was pretty laid back. We got the rest of our Christmas decorations put away and just hung out at home. Alexis and I stayed in pajamas all day Saturday. I spent part of Sunday planning out my month and getting a little writing done.

I'm still sorting out my goals for the year. After how last year turned out, I'm a little gun shy. Are you setting any goals or resolutions for this year? I'd love to know what they are!

I've got quite the to-do list to get through today, not to mention getting Alexis ready to go back to school tomorrow, so I've got to get started. I hope your first week of 2021 is a good one!
