10 Non-Candy Options for Trick-or-Treaters

by - October 26, 2021

Are you guys ready for Halloween? Will you be taking your little ones trick-or-treating or handing out treats to the neighborhood kids? We'll be going door-to-door in our neighborhood, but I've done my fair share of handing out treats over the years as well.

Did you know that one-in-thirteen children has some type of food allergy? Many others is impacted by some other type of intolerance or condition that makes traditional trick-or-treat handouts not ideal.

Whether you have a child that fits that category or just want to be more inclusive with your treats this year, the Teal Pumpkin Project has you covered. It is a grassroots effort to raise awareness of food allergies while making Halloween more accessible for all children. Their website has a ton of resources, including a map of houses in your area that participate in the project.

While we don't have any allergies or other intolerances to worry about while trick-or-treating, I'm also not the biggest fan of having a pound of candy at the end of the night. We're not the type of parents who deny all sweets all the time, but we do try to keep Alexis's sugar intake on the lower side.

In spirit of that and the Teal Pumpkin Project, I put together a list of fun alternatives to Halloween candy. These are all things that Alexis loves and would be thrilled to find in her treat bucket. Bonus: none of these things costs very much.
